Insurance/Recovery Tip:

Tips for Searching Online

If you've ever sat down to search for items online (like for your personal property inventory), you might find that it's hard to weed through all of the extraneous results. Many websites have an “Advanced Search” option that can come in very handy. Check out Google’s Advanced Search where you can search for an exact phrase, or even within a specific domain, or a specific file type:

http://www.google.com/advanced_search?hl=en

eBay also has an advanced search option where you can search items from a specific seller, or even auctions that have already ended (especially good for finding the sold price and not just what the current bid is).

http://search.ebay.com/ws/search/AdvSearch?sofindtype=13&_trksid=m37

Both of these links can be found just to the right of the search button on the respective websites. Look for an “Advanced Search” option on other websites as well. You’ll be amazed at how powerful they can be!

Sempra news:

Utilities trim trees near power lines or risk big fines

USA Today - Aug 11, 2008

A nationwide order to trim trees near power lines could decrease significantly the kinds of power outages that plunge whole states into darkness, energy industry experts say.

Advocates: Insurance ruling may hurt fire victims

Pomerado Newspaper Group - August 6, 2008

Disaster Prepared:

"One Storm" Disaster Preparedness website

This site was created to help prepare for a hurricane, but just ignore the word hurricane and replace it with disaster. Their site can be used for anyone! Here is a bit of their story:

"OneStorm was created in 2005 in reaction to one of the worst hurricane seasons in history. When I moved from Philadelphia to St. Petersburg, Florida that year, boy was I in for a surprise. Turning to the Internet (as I always do) for resources on how to prepare for back-to-back hurricanes, I was shocked to find such little information out there. Over a casual lunch conversation with co-founder Peter Loui, we agreed that someone should really put everything in one place to help families get prepared. We decided that someone was us, and here we are three years later preparing thousands of families across the country."

Quote of the Week:

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. - Helen Keller
